I had an early flight out of Sydney, so I wanted a hotel close to the airport for my last night. The Mantra Sydney Airport is exactly that. Coming from the Porter House in the city, it felt like a downgrade. But for what it is, it was fine.
Quick verdict: A practical airport hotel, about 10 minutes on foot from Terminal 2, with an airport view from the room. Plain, and pricey in high season. JCI Score 3.4 out of 5.
Location
The hotel stands right next to Terminal 2, the domestic terminal. It's a short walk, about 10 minutes, which is very handy before an early flight.
The surroundings are not pretty. There's a huge car park in front and a big access road behind the building. It's not a quiet spot. But the windows stay closed anyway, and with them shut, it was fine.
Getting There & First Impression
It's an airport hotel, so the lobby is big and busy. Departure screens hang on the wall, so you can check your flight without leaving the hotel. The reception was friendly. There's also a restaurant, where breakfast is served.
Check-In & Loyalty Experience
As a Gold member I got a small welcome gift: a box with two snack bars and a bottle of water. No lounge, no big perk. For one night, that's fine.
The Room
My room was on one of the top floors. It's a small, standard hotel room. Nothing luxurious here. The bed was okay, and cleanliness was okay too.
The view of the airport is the real highlight. You can watch planes land from your window. And they aren't loud. I didn't have much airport noise in the room at all.
There's a small desk. It's not much space to work, and the WiFi was okay. No digital features here.
The bathroom and shower were okay. Nothing fancy, nothing wrong.
Food & Drink
The restaurant serves breakfast, but I skipped it. I wanted to have breakfast at the airport.
Digital Customer Experience
Nothing digital to report.
The Bill & Value
One night, €157.31 (about $185). That's steep for what you get. It was high season, which didn't help. I also earned 198 Reward points and 132 Status points. You can check current rates and availability on the official Accor page for the Mantra Sydney Airport.
Verdict
What I particularly liked
The 10-minute walk to the terminal, the airport view from the room, and the plane-spotting spot nearby.
What I didn't like
The small room, the plain standard feel, the busy surroundings, and a price that felt steep.
Would I come back? If you have to sleep at the airport, I can recommend it. But here's what I learned: I booked it to avoid a long trip from the city in the morning, and it turns out you get from the city to the airport quite easily. I wouldn't pay extra for an airport hotel unless you really don't trust the early trip.
