Privacy Policy

1. Overview

This privacy policy explains what personal data is collected when you visit JankoCheckedIn.com, how it’s used, and what rights you have regarding your data.

2. Who Is Responsible (Data Controller)

Janko Zehe, Fabriciusstraße 31, 22177 Hamburg, Germany
Email: mail@jankocheckedin.com

3. Your Rights

Under the GDPR, you have the right to:

  • request information about the personal data I hold about you (Art. 15 GDPR)
  • request correction of inaccurate data (Art. 16 GDPR)
  • request deletion of your data (Art. 17 GDPR)
  • request restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
  • receive your data in a portable format (Art. 20 GDPR)
  • object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21 GDPR)
  • lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority — for Hamburg, this is the Hamburgische Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit (https://datenschutz-hamburg.de)

To exercise any of these rights, contact me at mail@jankocheckedin.com.

4. Hosting

This website is hosted by:

Strato AG Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany

Strato processes the data described below (server log files, and any data you actively submit, e.g. via comments) on my behalf as a data processor, under a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR). Strato’s own privacy policy: https://www.strato.de/datenschutz/

5. Server Log Files

Every time you visit this site, technical information is automatically collected and stored in server log files. This includes:

  • your IP address (anonymized or shortened where technically possible)
  • browser type and version
  • operating system
  • referring URL (the page you came from)
  • date and time of the request
  • the amount of data transferred and the access status (HTTP status code)

This data is processed to ensure the technical stability and security of the website (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR — legitimate interest) and is typically deleted automatically after a short retention period.

6. Cookies

This website uses cookies — small text files stored on your device. WordPress itself sets a small number of technical cookies (for example, to remember your comment details if you choose to save them, see below, or for the login session if you’re logged in as an administrator). These technical cookies are necessary for the site to function and are set based on legitimate interest (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR) or, where required, based on your consent (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR).

7. Comments

If you leave a comment on a review, the following data is stored:

  • the name and email address you provide
  • the content of your comment
  • your IP address
  • date and time of the comment

Your email address is not published and is only used to identify you as the comment author and, if you choose, to notify you of follow-up comments. If you check the “save my name and email in this browser” box, this information is stored in a cookie for your convenience on future visits; you can delete this cookie at any time. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR), given by submitting the comment.

Comments are stored until you request deletion, or indefinitely as part of the site’s content, unless you ask me to remove a specific comment.

8. Web Fonts

This website uses the web fonts Work Sans, Playfair Display, and Caveat. These fonts are hosted locally on this server — not loaded from Google’s or any other third-party servers. No data is transferred to an external font provider, and no separate consent is required for this.

9. Embedded YouTube Videos

Some reviews embed videos hosted on YouTube (a service provided by Google Ireland Limited). When a page with an embedded video loads, YouTube may set cookies and collect data about your visit — including your IP address — even if you don’t click play, unless the page uses YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode.

Google’s privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR), given by visiting a page with an embedded video, or legitimate interest (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR) where privacy-enhanced/no-cookie embedding is used — see “Open items” below for which mode is currently active.

10. Google Analytics

This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (“Google”), to understand how visitors use the site (e.g. which reviews are popular, how people navigate the site).

Google Analytics uses cookies and collects data such as your (shortened) IP address, browser and device information, pages visited, and time spent on the site. This data is transmitted to and processed by Google, in part on servers in the United States, based on the EU Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

Google Analytics is only loaded after you give your consent via the cookie banner on this site. You can withdraw your consent at any time by changing your cookie settings, or by installing Google’s opt-out browser add-on: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout

Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR). Google’s privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy

11. Data Retention

Personal data is only kept for as long as necessary for the purposes described above, or as required by German statutory retention periods (e.g. commercial and tax record-keeping obligations).

12. Changes to This Policy

This privacy policy may be updated to reflect changes to the site or to legal requirements. The current version always applies.
