MGallery is Accor's boutique collection, and The Porter House Hotel Sydney shows what that means. It's modern and luxurious, but never loud. That's how I like it. I stayed six nights, and I'd go back.
Quick verdict: Understated luxury in the middle of Sydney, with a very comfortable bed, an excellent shower and a panna cotta every morning at breakfast. The room is small, and there's no real desk. JCI Score 4.5 out of 5.
Location
I took the train from the airport to the main station and walked a few blocks from there. You could also take the metro and get closer.
The hotel sits in the middle of the city, so you're in Downtown Sydney within minutes. There are great restaurants all around. A park nearby is good for jogging, and I went running there. The Opera House is about a 20-minute walk. You'll also see rental bikes everywhere. I used them to get from A to B.
Getting There & First Impression
The hotel is split in two. The old historic building holds the reception and the restaurant. The rooms are in the modern building next door, part of a high-rise complex. Old and new together, and it works.
I arrived in the evening, and the welcome was lovely. The whole place feels fancy and modern, with real luxury, but understated.
Check-In & Loyalty Experience
A bottle of wine and a handwritten card were waiting in my room. That was my welcome perk as a Gold member. There was no real upgrade. I had a Superior Room, as booked. No lounge, but I didn't miss it here.
The Room
My room was on the seventh floor. It's stylish. The towels were wonderfully fluffy, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Everything felt elegant and calm.
The room is small, which is normal for a city hotel. There's an armchair and a little table, but that's not a desk. I sat in the armchair and at the table, and that was it. It's fine for a short email, not for real work.
The hotel sits on the corner of a street crossing, so you get a bit of open view, mostly of the street and the buildings around. In the evening and at night you can hear some traffic. Still, it was quiet for a hotel in the middle of the city.
The bathroom is semi-open. But this one is solved better than the one at Hyde in Melbourne. The shower has its own glass door, and the toilet is separate. I could dry off inside the shower and didn't step straight into the cold, air-conditioned room. The shower itself was excellent. Great water pressure, and it felt luxurious. It loses half a star only because the bathroom isn't fully closed off from the room.
Food & Drink
Breakfast was included, and you choose one dish from the menu. But here's what made my mornings: a small panna cotta with berries and crumble, served as a welcome from the kitchen before breakfast. Vanilla, creamy but not too wobbly, with fresh berries and crunchy crumble on top. It was the best dessert ever. I looked forward to it every single morning. The breakfast team was wonderful, too.
In the evening, the same restaurant turns into a high-end fine-dining spot, a star-level place, from what I could tell. I only ate breakfast there.

The Bill & Value
Six nights, €1,054.37 (about $1,235) in total. That's about €176 (about $206) a night. I earned 2,874 Reward points and 1,942 Status points. It was worth the money. You can check current rates and availability on the official Accor page for the Porter House.
Verdict
What I particularly liked
The mix of old and new, the understated luxury, the very comfortable bed, the fluffy towels, the shower with its own door, the panna cotta every morning, the welcome wine, the friendly team, and the central location.
What I didn't like
The small room with no real desk, the small pool and spa, and some traffic noise at night.
Would I come back? Without a doubt. The hotel was phenomenal, and it was worth the money.
