The Mercure Tokyo Haneda Airport is a real airport hotel with a free shuttle, but the room was a pleasant surprise. For Japan it was huge, it was nicely designed with a great view, and the bathroom with its separate shower and bathtub felt like my own little onsen. The lobby is busy, the bar is not cosy, and the desk is tiny.

Quick verdict: A nicely designed airport hotel close to Haneda with a free shuttle, a quick check-in, a spacious room by Japanese standards on the 11th floor and a wonderful bathroom with a high-tech toilet, a separate shower and a bathtub. The lobby is hectic, the desk in the room is tiny (Platinum members also get a meeting room for an hour), and the surroundings are not much to look at. JCI Score 3.7 out of 5.

Location

The hotel is really an airport hotel, because it is close to Haneda Airport. It has a free airport shuttle, so you get from the airport to the hotel very easily, and back to the airport very conveniently.

I had a flight the next morning, so I took the train out to the hotel in the evening. From the nearest station, Otorii, it is a walk of about five minutes. It was really just around the corner.

That evening it rained so much that I hardly had a chance to go out. I got something to eat in a convenience store nearby, a kind of 7-Eleven. It was not great, but it was okay.

Getting There & First Impression

The lobby is very big. As in any airport hotel, there were suitcases standing around everywhere and people waiting, so it was very busy.

Check-In & Loyalty Experience

I was served quickly, got my room card quickly and could check in very fast.

I also saw a bar, and that is where I had my welcome drink. It was not exactly cosy, but for an airport hotel it was okay.

In the room I was welcomed with a card and two small snacks.

The Room

My room was on the 11th floor. The hotel corridor is long, but not too long.

The room was really lovely, and I enjoyed it. It had a great view, and I could see far. Unfortunately it rained so much that evening that I could not enjoy it as much as I had hoped.

By Japanese standards the room was huge, compared with everything else I have seen in Japan. Even if it would only have been a small ibis room in Europe, here it felt generous. It was nicely designed overall, with a big TV, a small table and a small seating area with two chairs.

The desk was small. The welcome card also lists a meeting room for one hour as an ALL Platinum benefit, so there is another place to work. There was not much space for my suitcase, either. I put it on the seating area.

The bathroom was also spacious. It was not just a wet cell, but something bigger. There was a Japanese high-tech toilet again, which was wonderful, fluffy towels, nice amenities and a great shower. The shower was separate from the bathtub, so there was a bathtub as well. I felt like I had my own little onsen. I really liked that.

Food & Drink

I did have breakfast, and it was full. It was organised superbly, in an efficient Japanese way, but the room was crowded and not very cosy. There was great coffee and a wide variety of dishes, so you can try new things you may not know from home. It was high quality and very varied, and I thought it was great.

Digital Customer Experience

Nothing digital to report.

The Bill & Value

One night cost €179.01 (about $211). I earned 679 Reward points and 386 Status points. Even for Japan, that is still a lot of money for just one night in an airport hotel. You can check current rates and availability on the official Accor page for the Mercure Tokyo Haneda Airport.

Verdict

What I particularly liked

The free airport shuttle, the varied, high-quality breakfast with great coffee, the quick check-in, the nice design, the big room for Japan with a great view, the welcome card with two snacks, and the spacious bathroom with its separate shower, bathtub and high-tech toilet.

What I didn't like

The crowded, not very cosy breakfast room, the busy lobby full of suitcases, the not very cosy bar, the small desk and the lack of space for a suitcase.

Would I come back? Yes, definitely. I would gladly stay here again.
