- WalkabilityMany upscale restaurants within walking distance, to the north-east
- Airport / TrainAbout 45 minutes by bus or taxi from the airport
The Mercure Bogotá BH Zona Financiera surprised me. I did not expect much, and it is anything but fancy, yet I somehow liked it. The room was very large, the welcome was very Colombian, nice and a bit chatty, and the area has a great restaurant scene within walking distance. The bathroom, the bed, the noise and the breakfast are the weak points.
Quick verdict: A basic, quirky hotel with a big corner room, a lovely welcome card and a good location for restaurants. The bathroom is a strange construction and not very clean, the street is loud, and there is no place to work. JCI Score 2.2 out of 5.
Location
The Mercure is in an area that is not really touristy. A little north-east of the hotel there is a district with a lot of upscale restaurants, including some starred ones, within walking distance. I will research exactly which restaurants those are. So you can experience a bit more here than the neighbourhood suggests.
Getting There & First Impression
From the airport, the hotel is about 45 minutes away by bus or taxi. I did not come from the airport myself, because I was already in Bogotá. From the outside, it is a basic business hotel.
Check-In & Loyalty Experience
The welcome was very Colombian. The staff were not extremely friendly, but nice and a little chatty.
I got a room upgrade because of my status. I was also greeted with a lovely card that was already waiting in the room, which made me happy. The snacks in the room were included for me, again because of my status.
The Room
The room was a corner room and very large. The view was onto a free gap between the houses, plus lots of streets. It was loud, which I still remember well.
The bed was okay, but not very comfortable.
The furnishing was a bit odd. There was some purple, and a lot of veneer. In a way it was cool, but then also basic and cheap. Inside the hotel there is also a strange staircase construction.
There was no seating area, only a stool. I used it to put my suitcase on, because I always need a lot of space for it. A small seat at a sideboard could have been used for working, but for working it was no good at all.
The bathroom was a strange construction. Behind a wardrobe there was a kind of niche where the bathroom was. It was not very clean. The shower was not in a bathtub, but there was very little pressure, and not much water came out. You also had to walk past the toilet to get there. I did not like that.
Only later did I notice that you can go up to the roof and enjoy a view from there. There is also a small fitness room, which was quite nice.
Food & Drink
The breakfast team tried hard, but it was not a real breakfast buffet of the kind a European or American traveller expects. The food was not good. You get eggs and coffee, and you cannot expect much more.
Digital Customer Experience
Nothing digital to report.
The Bill & Value
Two nights cost €116.83 (about $139) in total, which is about €58 (about $69) a night. I earned 445 Reward points and 253 Status points. For a very large room, that is a fair price. You can check current rates and availability on the official Accor page for the Mercure Bogotá BH Zona Financiera.
Verdict
What I particularly liked
The very large corner room, the lovely welcome card, the friendly and chatty staff, the roof with its view, the small gym and the great restaurants within walking distance.
What I didn't like
The odd bathroom behind the wardrobe that was not clean, the weak shower, the noise from the streets, the bed that was not very comfortable, the lack of a seating area or workspace, and the poor breakfast.
Would I come back? Not necessarily.
