Accor brand
ibis is Accor's budget brand, and I avoid it whenever I can. Now and then I'm too stingy, or every other hotel is badly located, and then I book an ibis anyway.
Too often I regret it. The rooms are very basic and not comfortable, and I end up annoyed with myself for booking another one. The design is the same standard look in every city, so you always know what to expect.
There are exceptions. The newer ibis hotels are clearly making more of an effort, and they are genuinely comfortable. The standard is still simple, but they are very clean and very practical, and I can almost recommend them. My example is the ibis in Vilnius, where I always come back gladly: newly furnished, a great standard and really nice. The breakfast there is very good too: big and open, but very pleasant.
The ibis in Zurich is the opposite. It's not nice at all, and I'm annoyed every single time. It still costs 250 Swiss francs, though, so my stinginess wins again.
